Doug Bug
США
Добавлен 26 янв 2017
This is my humble channel where I work on things (primarily my Baja Bug) in my garage with my buddy (dog) Doug.
I work a regular job and don't have a lot of room to spread out with these projects. So I think the purpose of my videos is to show that those of us with limited space can still get quite a bit done if we organize and plan what we do.
So please enjoy the videos, comment if you like. Hopefully it will inspire some people to go out into the garage and build something.

Getting chased by a FPV Drone at the track!
I was lucky enough to meet up with Bluehornet_FPV (Wade) at RAM Offroad park. He's a FPV (first person view) drone pilot, and he chased me around the track some and got some really good footage. Thanks Wade! ✌
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Hey fellas, I had a really slow start to 2024, it took a long time to get things going with Wratchet. I was lucky enough to meet up with Dylan and Gavin from The Rad Factory (RUclips channel) and we had an amazing time at RAM Off-road park. I made some changes to Wratchet over the winter and he is much more drivable than he was last year. I hope you enjoy the video.

Hey Fabricators, In this video I make some improvements to the front suspension of Wratchet after I discovered the spindles were starting to show signs of failure. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1i0qTcN-1BB5_Lu6umgi9OrvRJKr-0vz3 This is my shared folder, from here click on Wratchet files, then Front suspension, then Front Spindle Rev2. Those are the DXF and BTAX files for the parts I made here.

Big Jump (by accident) at the OHV park
Просмотров 14 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Hello all, I was able to get Wratchet back to the RAM Offroad park, had a lot of fun. I accidently attempted a double and overshot it, and then found out it was a stepdown. So I really ended up dropping off the back. But Wratchet took it like a champ, for the most part anyways.
Got Wratchet to the OHV park, but it was cut short by SNOW Storm!
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.9 месяцев назад
Hello all, Well I got out to the OHV park again, but it was cut short by a snow storm, which was not in the forecast! But I did get some video footage, and here it is. Although I'm hoping to get back out there again to push Wratchet a little harder.

Drizzle a little alcohol on the hot glue… dis-bonds immediately.
Very nice Comparison video
Good basic video ..can I offer some suggestions ? If you rolled some strips of panel steel to go across the under side from side to side at the steel only stage , with an over lap of 3 inches both sides , and tacked them in place with your mig you would get a plug which resisted twisting .It also gives a rigid accurate trim . edge . I prime my plugs ( dye ) with a Duratec primer or regular 2 pk automotive primer . Any divets can be stop puttied with Dynatron or similar wet sand finished and buffed before the wax parting agent ( around 5/6 ) polished and left an hour after polishing between wax coats . Then pva before the tooling gel ..It will give you a mould which will need much less wet sanding to get ready to mould from ..👍 otherwise good info ..
8:20 ever think thats because the arkerman is complete shit?🤣 complete shit steering (under power) AND complete shit akerman? nah cant be related
3:36 wait why is it exaggerated? your tierod pivots on the lines you talk about at 2:54
you are a suspension master mate!
Thanks! 😁
You can actually take that plastic cover off and then pull the pin out from the bottom side
Man, you got me thinking about the steering setup on my toyota pickup. Its forward steer and im sure its just as bad as the demo on paper lol. I think im gonna try to make it rear steer and get better geometry. This might be the reason why my tires need rotation more often than i think they should is because they are scrubbing the heck out of the roads every turn i take lol... Thanks for the great explanation man 👍👌
😂I love your dog!
Thanks!
hello, in which program do you make such drawings, thank you for the answer and luck in everything!
I do those 2D drawings in Bend Tech.
Hello Doug You helped me a lot , thanks to your videos I decided to do the wiring myself , my project is a 1/4 mile drag car , so I did the wiring and at Dino keep cutting off around 460 whp , my tunner said wiring problem on shielded wiring on crank , knock and cam sensors , he said it’s wrong so I need to have a visual sample how you did it if no much to ask
For the Cam, Crank, and Knock I ran a dedicated (2) conductor shielded pair to each of those separately. I grounded the shield wire to the AEM ground wire. Also if you are running the J series keep an eye on the Cam trigger. That gave me some issues because the trigger cast into the cam wheel tapers off rather that just drops off. So it sends a weaker signal to the Cam sensor. I hope that helps.
Great job on details of mold building. Excellent work. Hope to use your technique on custom RV10 instrument panel and center console.
Good luck on your project, and thanks for the comment. 👍
If the limiting factor on this setup is where the heim joint touches the mounting bracket for the steering would it have been possible to add longer spaces either side of the heim and space the brackets out abit more so that the heim doesn't touch? Or would that cause other issues?
Don't worry after commenting and watching more I noticed that the heim is not just limited where it touches the bracket but its also maxed out on the bearing in the center of the heim
gracias amigo
Did you sell it ?
She is sold. 👍
Great work and engineering. I'll do this to my buggy. One procedure I will change is before spot welding the caliper bracket to the spindle, Put the pads in the caliper and slip it in place over the rotor. Attach a regulated air line to the brake line port. induce to 10 psi air into caliper and if it's set in place correctly spot weld it. I did this before on a car and it worked great.
Beautiful work man I learned a lot from this, I don't know anything about fiberglass but I'm interested for making hard toe caps for protective work boots
Thanks 👍
1st video i chose to watch to learn how to do this and I don't need to watch anyone else's. Great stuff. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment.
offroad Driving Tip: Keep your thumbs outside the rim of the steering wheel, to prevent them from being broken, if you land heavily or hit a big ditch.
Thank you Man.. been working on this for years... but You were worth the wait.. buddy🎉🎉
No problem! Thanks for the comment.
Crush lock nuts.
After watching your vids I pulled the trigger and got the bend tech pro. Thanks for the amazing content

😍😍😍👏👏👏👏💯💯💯💪💪💪👍👍
Mentally bonding with the car and learning what its limits are is priceless. I can’t imagine what the folks go through in the Baja 1000 races.
They must feel numb when they finally get out of the vehicle.
Sorry sir I couldn't get the downloaded files for this project
You've done Great on your Ride,...,whats next? .A Race?
Thanks, what's next at this point is to get out there and use it, and make a couple changes as I see weak points. 👍
You know Mike I've followed your project from the start, and gotta say i am so impressed that you can follow it all the way through and enjoy it. Congratulations.
Thanks, appreciate the comment. A lot of channels go from project to project, never really fully finishing them. But my intention was always to get this running, and then keep dialing it in making it better and better. ✌
Your car just launches and lands so so smooth , Makes me want to tear my car apart and do what you have done. Did you design your suspension yourself ?? . I don't recall if your first car had the same designed suspension. I believe you shared your design if I remember correctly . Have you had any cracking issues ??. I know if I launched my car like you do , I would be breaking arms and cracking the frame. Love that car you have.
I did design this myself, this suspension is much stronger than the first Baja I built. Originally I was getting some stress cracks in the front spindles, I remade them and added some bracing where needed. So far since then everything as far as I can tell is holding up very well. 👍
Nice footage Mike! It's watching a video game. The buggy looks like its dialed-in.
Thanks 👍
Offroad Bug, Dftly looks n sounds like a Great time n lovin the color/set up combo. Well done my friend. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Those are some good sized jumps. Looks like it’s sucking them up with ease.
Yeah, at this point it's jumping higher and farther than I thought it would be able to. 👍 Which is a good thing. 😁
epic drone shot bruh!!
Yeah, this pilot was really good at running that thing. It wasn't autonomous, he was doing all that flying himself. I was neat to see how that all works. 👍
Dude.... I wanna run this track. This looks sick!!!
lol, I hear ya, it is really fun!
@@DougBugBuilder hopefully my truck is done this week like I planned I miss driving and jumping
So nice! Beautiful work Mike!
I can’t wait to give that front suspension a try for myself 😉
Thanks!
I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. After the spindle mods mine has been bullet proof so far. 👍
work perfect ,congrats boy 👍👏👏💯💯
Thanks ✌
G'day, Wratchet looks very well balanced when taking those jumps. Q. How's the spine after a session on the track. So thanks for sharing your track time it's always amazing to watch. ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
Kevin, my spine is fine, but my kidneys are tender. 😁 I need to buckle in tighter, if I'm to lose I get rag dolled all over the place. ✌
Top de mais
Merci mon pote!
Looking to see how those seats are mounted. They look like there bolted straight to the cage. Maybe you could give them their own shock absorbers to save on spine work later. (since you said the landings where a little jarring).
They are direct to the chassis, the only absorption is the foam in the seats. And my spine and kidneys.... 😁
The car works good! great build.
Thanks 👍
Super fun
Thanks
@@DougBugBuilder you have make a very good machinery, super builds, have fun
That looks like Fun. How far, how high can that thing jump?
Thanks, I guess I don't know the answer to that question yet. I can tell you a couple of these jumps are pretty big and long. The landings are sometimes a little harsh, but it feels like it could take more for sure.
@@DougBugBuilder from here those landings look a soft as a pillow..... does the seat have it's own suspension setup? Maybe some shock and springs up the side of the seats.?
@@RoverIAC No they're not suspension seats. Actually somehow the bigger jumps are softer than the smaller jarring around on uneven terrain.
Music is too loud.
kidney belt might help. they work. 👍
I didn't even think about that, thanks for the idea. 👍
What seat are you using and are they working. Thanks great video!!
They are NRG seats, they're not bad. Honestly I don't think I was strapped in tightly enough, so I'll take most of the blame.
Nice!
Thanks!
Nice Job! Your camera work and editing worked great! The car seems to be running great.
Thanks Greg, it actually is running really well. ✌
very cool, everything seems to be flowing perfectly 💯💯💪💪👍👍👏👏
Thanks, yes it's coming together very well. 👍
I'm not sure why you didn't add brakes before you put the wheels on to begin with. Also, on a trailer like this both axles should have brakes.
